Privacy Engineering

This course is an introductory course that focuses on the technical aspects of privacy in the new age of statistical inference. The course will briefly discuss the history of privacy regulations as background, with two major examples from the United States and the European Union. The course will then survey three engineering-oriented frameworks of privacy. Afterwards, the course will survey a number of threat-specific privacy frameworks, including Randomizing Responses, k-Anonymity (and anonymization in general), Differential Privacy and privacy in healthcare.
